The University of Wuppertal invites applications for a professorship in Mathematics in the area of Algebra. The position will be based in the School of Mathematics and Natural Science. We are looking for an outstanding personality who will continuously develop this area in research and teaching.
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Research focus in an active area of Algebra (e.g., Arithmetic Geometry, Algebraic Geometry, or Representation Theory)
- Clear links to other research areas within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences and in particular to the Algebra and Number Theory group
- An active participation in initiatives for establishing future research associations in the region and willingness to engage in corresponding scientific cooperations
- Teaching in the degree programmes of Mathematics, in particular in the area of Algebra
- Commitment to appropriate participation in academic self-governance
- Scientific publications of high level in recognized math journals in the main area of the advertised professorship
- Experience in obtaining competitive third-party funding is desirable

QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed degree (master or equivalent from university) in Mathematics
- Special aptitude for academic work, usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate, a topic relevant to the advertised position is desirable.
- Pedagogical aptitude, which is proven by appropriate previous experience or, exceptionally, demonstrated in the appointment procedure
- It is presupposed that after 3 years at the latest the relevant courses can be taught in German

You are able to demonstrate your qualification for the position by international peer-reviewed publications, relevant teaching experience, international collaborations, and the successful acquisition of third-party funds. Starting as junior professors, they are appointed normally as civil servants for a period of three years. These positions are extended for additional three years if the junior professors have successfully passed an interim evaluation. After a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the candidates are appointed professors (legal basis: W 2, permanent professorship). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement and a written confirmation verifying the negotiated financial and personal resources of the professorship are an integral part of the acceptance agreement between university and candidates.
