Tenure Track Position in Music Theory
The Colby College Department of Music invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in Music Theory to begin on July 1, 2027. We are seeking a dynamic teacher and scholar whose research specialization and course offerings will complement those of the existing department. The successful candidate will join a small, collegial department and will have a teaching load of 4.5 courses per academic year (alternating between 4 and 5 courses every other year) that will include:
- Music Theory I (MU181)
- Music Theory II (MU182)
- Electives (1-3/academic year)
Additional courses may include: an upper-level theory course; Senior Seminar; a first-year writing course (W1)
The successful candidate will propose courses that are engaging, broadly-appealing, and, for the electives, suitable for both majors and non-majors and will have a vision for Colby's Music Theory curriculum that will generate excitement among students. The candidate will also maintain a strong research trajectory in their field(s) of specialization. The search committee is especially interested in candidates with a record of previous college teaching and who, through their research, teaching, and service, will contribute to access and belonging within the campus community. Preference will be given to candidates holding a Ph.D. in Music Theory at the time of appointment.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $92,700 to $96,700, commensurate with rank, experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.
