Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor (several posts) in the School of Future Media (Ref.: 534480), to commence in January 2027 or from as soon as possible thereafter. The appointment rank will be determined according to qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Assistant Professors will be appointed on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at Professor/Associate Professor level may be considered for direct tenure subject to the University’s approval.

School of Future Media

Established on October 1, 2025, the School of Future Media (SFM) consists of three Divisions: the Journalism and Media Studies Centre (Asia’s premier journalism education department, founded in 1999); the Documentary and AI Filmmaking Division (teaching documentary since 2010, and AI filmmaking since 2023), and the Global Creative Industries Division.

Positioned in Hong Kong—a global city linking Asia and the world—the School aims to cultivate pioneers across all media sectors and creative industries. The Position

  • Journalism: AI applications in journalism practices, entrepreneurship, business journalism;
  • Global Creative Industries: gaming and digital humanities, visual arts and museum studies, music and performing arts, visual communications. 

Requirements

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Journalism, Media/Game Studies, Computational Social Science, Computer Sciences, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or related fields of study. Applicants should possess a track record of high-quality publications and/or development of innovative media applications; a record of success at obtaining competitive research funding and/or private/public investments in digital media projects. Proven leadership in administration, programme and curriculum development and experience in China and Asia, with demonstrated ability to create real-world impact through their research work are advantages. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will play a key role in developing and leading academic and professional development initiatives, and fostering industrial and academic partnerships. He/She will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development. The appointee will also supervise postgraduate students, conduct research, and undertake administrative duties at the Division and/or School levels.

What We Offer

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
