Tenure-Track Professorship (W1) ‘City and Climate’
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate to work with interdisciplinary teams from civil engineering, architecture, regional science, geography, geoecology, and climate sciences to advance the design and adaptation of the built environment to climate change challenges. The focus is on strategies for sustainable climate mitigation at various scales, from individual buildings to neighborhoods and entire cities.
Research emphasizes developing practical solutions for climate-resilient cities, including sustainable and resilient infrastructure, protection of critical infrastructure, adjustments in buildings and urban design, and responsible use of resources. This role contributes to sustainable neighborhood and urban development in collaboration with municipalities and authorities.
In teaching, you will offer courses for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, participate in interdisciplinary student projects, and contribute to programs in English and German. Teaching load is 6 semester hours per week after positive evaluation, otherwise 4.
You will represent the field in research and teaching, develop it conceptually, and contribute to interdisciplinary projects at KIT. Required skills include various research approaches, critical and participatory methods, and digital tools. Demonstrated expertise in sustainable climate adaptation is essential, along with willingness to collaborate with KIT faculties and centers.
Active participation in academic institutions and acquisition of third-party funding is expected. Employment is for six years, with evaluations at the third year and end, potentially leading to a W3 professorship.
