Job Title: Tenure-Track/Tenure at Assistant/Associate Professor in Psychotherapy
Position Status: Tenure-Track; OPSEU Local 685
Location: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Department: Psychology
Preferred Start Date: July 1, 2026 (negotiable)

Qualifications & Application Process

Qualifications

  • lived experience with Anishinaabe culture and community, with demonstrated knowledge of Anishinaabe ways of knowing, understanding, and being.
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Seven Grandfather Teachings when working with diverse Indigenous populations.
  • candidates are required to 1) have completed a terminal master's degree or PhD/PsyD in Psychotherapy, Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis or other clinical science discipline, 2) be registered or are eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario OR the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario OR the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and 3) demonstrate an academic record of excellent teaching, clinical supervision, and community practice in psychotherapy (and cognate areas).
  • expertise in teaching courses in Psychotherapy including but not limited to empirical foundations of psychotherapy, microskills in psychotherapy, cultural responsiveness and trauma informed psychotherapy, and professional ethics in psychotherapy and other Indigenous-based courses the department may require.
  • Must know the TRC-Calls to Action in conjunction to the Psychotherapy Approach.
  • willing to supervise graduate student research projects.
  • specialized expertise in specific Psychotherapy modalities (e.g., DBT, CBT, IFS, ACT) and in-depth knowledge of the treatment of complex and developmental trauma, is considered an asset but not a mandatory requirement for this position.
  • be familiar with Indigenous Psychotherapy modalities and applications.
  • demonstrated relevant academic background, research portfolio and a record of teaching excellence.
  • experience with remote/online/hybrid instruction is desirable.

  • the names, contact information and relationship of three referees (one of whom should preferably be the most recent immediate supervisor)
