Position Overview:
The Department of Plant Pathology is seeking a part-time Term Research Technician 1 to support ongoing research focused on tree diseases. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in plant science and molecular biology. The technician will assist in laboratory and greenhouse experiments aimed at understanding molecular interactions between trees and pathogens.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain tree specimens in a greenhouse setting
- Extract and manipulate DNA and RNA from plant and fungal samples
- Perform PCR and amplicon sequence analysis
- Assist in molecular biology experiments related to tree-pathogen interactions
- Support data analysis and contribute to monthly data reporting
- Maintain accurate lab records and follow safety protocols
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- No prior experience required; training will be provided
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA/RNA extraction)
- Experience working in a greenhouse or laboratory setting
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
