Overview
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is hiring a TES Agent Assistant - Parent Educator. In this role, the individual will travel to participants' homes to work with parents enrolled in the Parents as Teachers program.
While in the home, they share child development knowledge, teach positive parenting techniques, conduct developmental screenings, and connect families to community resources to support school readiness, health, and well-being.
Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus.
Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
- Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
- Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
- Assistance with special projects
- Seasonal work
- Emergencies

Responsibilities
- Requires visiting families in the home and must be comfortable with delivering educational services in a nonjudgmental/strengths-based manner
- Must be well organized and be able to keep up with complicated timelines for screening and reporting.

- Flexibility with respect to time and days able to work (should be able to work some weekends and evenings when client schedules require it). Regular hours 8:00am-4:30pm
Physical Requirements/ Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods
- Occasionally requires the ability to travel. Must have valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
- Implement the curriculum provided by the National Parents as Teachers Center and the local districts enhancements.
- Serve up to 15 families in a TES Position A minimum of 12 and up to 24 home visits per year per family.
- A minimum of six parent group meetings per year.
- Complete all required documentation regarding home visits, attendance records, for PAT events, screening summaries, and reports requested by the coordinator.
- Actively recruit volunteer families to participate in the program. Attend all required trainings for certification, in-service, and screenings.
- Attend Biweekly staff meetings with supervisor and other parent educators.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Degrees may be used in lieu of experience
