Overview

The College of Veterinary Medicine seeks candidates to work as a TES Horse Handler in our Equine Surgery and Sports Medicine service as well as other areas of equine as needed.

Typical schedule will be Mon - Thurs, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

AU student employees are not eligible for TES.

Responsibilities

  • The Horse Handler will provide assistance to the Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery Service.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Jog and lunge horses for lameness exams
  • Provide restraint as needed for exams and procedures
  • Hourly checks on inpatients
  • Cleaning and restocking of suppliesThe individual may be asked to assist other areas of the equine section

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Personal or professional horse handling experience is required
