TES IT Assistant
Overview
An IT Assistant provides frontline technical support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students while gaining hands-on experience in information technology. This role is ideal for students interested in developing practical IT skills in a professional environment.
Temporary Employment Services (TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:
- Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
- Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
- Assistance with special projects
- Seasonal work
- Emergencies

Responsibilities
IT Assistant - Job Duties
- Provide first-level technical support to faculty, staff, and students for hardware, software, and network-related issues
- Install, configure, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripheral equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to operating systems, standard software applications, and university systems
- Assist with setup, operation, and troubleshooting of classroom and conference room technology (e.g., projectors, audiovisual equipment, Zoom/Teams systems)
- Respond to and track service requests through a help desk or ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation
- Perform routine system maintenance, including software updates, patches, and basic security checks
- Assist with user account management tasks such as account setup, password resets, and access permissions
- Maintain inventory of IT equipment and assist with asset tracking and documentation
- Support network connectivity troubleshooting, including wired and wireless access issues (basic level)
- Assist with hardware deployments, upgrades, and office moves
- Follow university IT policies, security protocols, and data protection standards
- Communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users in a professional and courteous manner
- Escalate complex technical issues to full-time IT staff as needed
- Perform other IT-related duties as assigned to support departmental operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
