TES Veterinary Assistant Inpatient (Overnight)
Overview
Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a TES Inpatient Vet Assistant to work in the Intermediate Care (IMC), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital. The individual in this position will work directly with board-certified emergency and critical care veterinarians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate qualify care and patient flow through the IMC, ICU, and ER.
This is a rotating overnight position. Schedule is Mon - Thurs, 10pm - 8am and Fri - Sun, 7:00pm - 8:00am.
Responsibilities
- Assists with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted in IMC, ICU, or ER observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.
- Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.
- Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques including CPR, mechanical ventilation and dialysis. Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.
- Perform job duties with speed and accuracy and work as essential personnel, providing care for patients after hours, on weekends and holidays. Assists with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.
- May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.
- This position will work to provide care for patients after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
This position involves direct contact with animals susceptible to rabies. Employees in this role must complete a rabies pre-exposure vaccination series and maintain adequate rabies antibody titer (>=0.5 IU/mL) as recommended by CDC guidelines. Auburn University will cover the cost of the rabies vaccination series, periodic titer checks, and any necessary boosters.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital/clinic environment
Degree can be used in lieu of experience.
