The Media Studies Program in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Media Studies (SOAM) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for the Mary Fox Whittlesey Visiting Assistant Professorship in Film Studies, beginning August 15, 2026. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, subject to university approval. Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

We seek an early-career scholar who specializes in film studies, with a preference for candidates who focus on the Middle East. Applicants should demonstrate a thorough grounding in the field of media studies and clear engagement with recent debates in film studies. Candidates should be prepared to teach existing courses within the Media Studies Program, as well as propose new courses that expand the Program’s curriculum and appeal. Applicants must hold a PhD in film studies, media studies, or a related discipline by the time of appointment.

The successful candidate will:

• Teach two courses per year (1/1) in alignment with the program’s curricular needs. Play a significant role in efforts to expand film studies at AUB. Contribute to a collegial and dynamic department that values professionalism and collaboration.
