Overview

The Toxicology course at Rutgers University provides broad research training in biochemical, organ system, and mechanistic toxicology with a strong foundation in drug metabolism, pathology, and molecular biology.

Key facts

The Programme is administered by the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, but draws on mentors come from over 17 different departments on campus to provide multidisciplinary training. Trainees are mentored by over 50 faculty members and academic and industry partners.

General requirements

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least a 3.0 GPA is required for admission.
The most appropriate preparation is an undergraduate concentration in biology (molecular and cellular biology or physiology), chemistry (organic, analytical, or physical chemistry), biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, forensics, animal, or environmental sciences.
Applicants are expected to have completed courses in calculus and physics.
Only online applications through the graduate school will be reviewed.
Selection is made on the basis of previous academic work, letters of recommendation, and personal statement.
TOEFL scores are required of students from countries in which English is not the native language.
Former Rutgers SURF and RiSE summer students are not required to pay the application fee (select the ‘RiSE’ Exemption in the application portal).
