Trades Specialist Carpenter, Facilities
Position Summary
The Facilities Department at the University at Buffalo invites applicants for the Trades Specialist Carpenter position. The incumbent must possess knowledge of carpentry equipment and systems and demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools.
Responsibilities include:
- Install structures and fixtures, such as windows, molding, ceilings, and office furniture.
- Follow blueprints and building plans to meet customer needs.
- Plan, layout, install, and construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and door frames.
- Measure, cut, and shape wood, plastic, and other materials.
- Properly use equipment, materials, and tools in a safe and professional manner.
- Be proficient in the application of building codes.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in carpentry work under a skilled tradesperson, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Alternatively, successful completion of a NYS two-year Carpenter Traineeship or equivalent program.
Preferred Qualifications
- A valid NYS Driver's license or ability to meet transportation requirements.
- Lock-out/Tag-out training.
- Experience with a variety of machines and tools, including power saws, cranes, and drills.
- Ability to work with multiple types of tools and detect written procedures.
Physical Demands
Work near electrical equipment, gas-fired equipment, and other potentially hazardous conditions. Requires bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or loud environments.
