Position Description
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Major/Essential Functions
- Constructs, repairs, and installs doors, cabinets, shelves, windows and wood and/or glass panels. Performs alterations to existing structures by installing or removing walls, partitions and similar construction.
- Repairs and/or installs acoustical suspended ceilings, ceramic or floor tiles, brick or CMU blocks. Repairs and/or installs and finishes concrete and floor coverings. Repairs and water-proofs various types of roofs.
- Safely performs journeyperson level carpentry skills in the construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of structures, buildings and built-in components or furnishings for Texas Tech University.
- Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Reviews job or project material requirements and prepares cost estimates.
- Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment and areas of operation.
- Provides after hours overtime work as required. Participates in emergency call-back roster on a rotating basis.
Required Qualifications
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent.
This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in the carpentry or construction industry.
