Duties & Responsibilities:
The NEXT STEP Dual Admission program is recruiting for a Transfer
Coordinator to join our team! The Transfer Coordinator manages the
annual process of reviewing, revising, and publishing the Transfer
Maps; facilitates programming for community college students who
are in the NEXT STEP program; provides one-on-one mentoring with an
emphasis on academic and career development along with general
transition support; and assists educational and community-building
events for NEXT STEP students once they are at VCU.
Core Responsibilities:
- Manage the annual curriculum review process for NEXT STEP
Transfer Maps (40%)
- Serve as lead for reviewing and revising existing transfer maps
and initiating new transfer maps
Communicate with faculty and administrators in VCU programs and
at our partner schools about curriculum details and changes
Update the transfer maps on the website each spring
Collect and track student enrollment data including retention
and graduation rates
Create and administer surveys to program participants, campus
partners, and community college partners
Provide mentorship and transition support for community college
students in NEXT STEP (25%):
- Meet with students one-on-one and in small group mentoring
sessions to assist them with short- and long-term educational and
professional goal-setting
- Provide information about VCU resources, programs, and
opportunities based on students’ goals and interests
- Provide guidance on the transfer process for NEXT STEP
- Assist with student outreach via monthly newsletters and
targeted communications to students based on their major,
interests, and intended transfer term
- Monitor the program email inbox and respond to inquiries from
students
Programming and events for community college students in NEXT
STEP (25%):
- Plan and facilitate community-building events, including a
welcome event each semester and monthly campus tours, for community
college students in the program
- Create and send surveys after events to use for program
improvement and to tailor future events to needs of students
- Collaborate with VCU campus partners to offer in-person and
virtual programming to students on topics like financial
management, academic skills and career development
- Plan and facilitate a pre-transition event held before
university orientation
Other duties as assigned (10%)
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with
colleagues across campus who can serve as partners in creating
programming and providing resources for NEXT STEP students
- Assist with programming and communication to support students
in their first semester at VCU
- Occasionally travel to NEXT STEP partner schools including
Reynolds and Brightpoint community colleges and Richard Bland
College to assist with recruitment events
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and
work experience.
- Experience working with college students in a college or
university setting, including admissions, curriculum development,
advising, and/or programming experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage time, provide clear direction, and establish
priorities.
- Ability to work well with others throughout VCU and among
transfer partner institutions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and
problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and Google applications,
including presentations and spreadsheets.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment
of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of
faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences,
or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Three or more years of experience working with college students
in a college or university setting, including admissions,
curriculum development, advising, and/or programming
experience.
- Experience working with transfer students or students
transitioning to VCU from another institution.
- Knowledge of VCU.
- Experience with curriculum development in a higher education
environment.
- Experience with Ellucian Banner and EAB Navigate.
Other Position Details
- This is a restricted position currently funded for one year.
Continued employment is dependent upon availability of
funding.
- This position allows for a hybrid work schedule up to 40% and
has occasional evening and weekend responsibilities. Occasional
local travel may be required.
Salary Range: $50,000
