In partnership with local schools, community organizations, and university stakeholders, this position develops and implements college readiness initiatives, monitors student progress, and conducts proactive outreach to address barriers and support student success. In addition to supporting prospective college students, the position provides transition and success support for transfer students enrolled at USF St. Petersburg, helping them navigate university resources, strengthen their sense of belonging, and persist toward degree completion. Through these efforts, the Transfer Success Specialist helps build a strong pipeline of college-ready students and supports successful postsecondary outcomes within the Florida College System, and the University of South Florida (USF).
This position is located at USF St. Petersburg campus in Undergraduate Studies within the Student Success Division.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Advise students and families on college readiness, the transfer process, academic enrichment, and career exploration.
- Develop college readiness curriculum and programming, including workshops and college tours for K-12 student groups and families, using in-person and electronic platforms.
- Create, guide, and track student milestones, educational resources, community initiatives, and intervention strategies that support post-secondary goals.
- Create meaningful opportunities for parent involvement and advocacy in students' academic journeys toward post-secondary and career goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of secondary school curricula, extracurriculars, enrichment programs, transfer pathways, and college preparation practices, tools, and resources.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a post baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling or an academic field directly related to the responsibilities of the position, or a Bachelor's degree in those same fields with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of post-secondary education, including the transfer process. Knowledge of higher education institutions, admissions requirements, degree programs, and workforce industries. Experience planning and facilitating multiple projects with competing timelines. Knowledge of Pinellas County, including local cultures, interests, and history. Bilingual and biliterate skills in English and Spanish a plus.
