Transportation Driver - On Call
Job Details
Position Purpose:
The Part-Time Transportation Driver safely operates university mini-buses (15-passenger vehicles) to transport students, faculty, and staff to athletic, academic, and campus-related events. The driver ensures passenger safety, follows all traffic laws, and represents the university in a professional manner.

Essential Job Functions:
- Operate university minibuses in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
- Transport students, faculty, staff, and guests to and from campus events, practices, competitions, and other approved activities.
- Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Maintain accurate trip records as required by the university.
- Ensure passengers follow safety procedures, including seat belt use.
- Keep vehicles clean and presentable at all times.
- Represent the university in a professional and customer-focused manner.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- Prior professional driving experience preferred, particularly with passenger transport.
Skills:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL with passenger endorsement favored.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and vehicle safety procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and the public.
Special Requirements:
- Evening and weekend availability is required.
- Flexibility with a fluctuating work schedule and environment is important.
- A valid driver's license and driving record which meets institutional requirements is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the Illinois Department of Transportation physical examination, which will be provided at the university’s expense.
- Physical ability to endure driving for an extended period of time.
The anticipated pay rate for this position is $25.00 per hour. This compensation is subject to change at the sole discretion of the university, based on institutional needs.
