"Transportation Driver - On Call"

Position Purpose:

The Part-Time Transportation Driver safely operates university mini-buses (15-passenger vehicles) to transport students, faculty, and staff to athletic, academic, and campus-related events. The driver ensures passenger safety, follows all traffic laws, and represents the university in a professional manner.

Essential Job Functions:

• Operate university minibuses in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
• Transport students, faculty, staff, and guests to and from campus events, practices, competitions, and other approved activities.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate trip records as required by the university.
• Ensure passengers follow safety procedures, including seat belt use.
• Keep vehicles clean and presentable at all times.
• Represent the university in a professional and customer-focused manner.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• Prior professional driving experience preferred, particularly with passenger transport.

Skills:

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL with passenger endorsement favored.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, and vehicle safety procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with students, staff, and the public.

Special Requirements:

• Evening and weekend availability is required.
• Flexibility with a fluctuating work schedule and environment is important.
• A valid driver's license and driving record which meets institutional requirements is required.

Physical Requirements:

• Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the Illinois Department of Transportation physical examination, which will be provided at the university’s expense.
• Physical ability to endure driving for an extended period of time.

The anticipated pay rate for this position is $25.00 per hour. This compensation is subject to change at the sole discretion of the university, based on institutional needs.
