SUMMARY:
The Transportation Manager, under direction, manages the Transportation Services department, which includes bus/fleet management, maintenance, routing, and scheduling of special services.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides and maintains a high level of customer service that is emphasized at all levels. Completes administrative requirements in a timely manner.
- Manages daily operations, supervises assigned staff and prepares driver’s schedule, oversees performance and responsibilities to ensure success.
- Assist clients in scheduling events. Communicates and meets with guests in advance of event or travel and assist in determining specific needs.
- Manages all aspects of university fleet including but not limited to; special event travel, fleet reservations, shuttle program, documentation of fleet preventative maintenance and fleet accident information.
- Ensures that vehicle data is accurate and that vehicle fleet is in compliance with relevant laws and regulations by overseeing administration of titles, registration, state reports, service accounts, billing, fleet inventory, mileage reports, and route statistics.
- Monitors and verifies that drivers are following appropriate safety procedures for transporting occupants and ensures equipment and people adhere to DOT rules and regulations.
- Performs Motor Vehicle Checks as needed and maintains a list of approved drivers for university vehicles.
- Drives university transportation vehicles as needed while following all rules and regulations.
- Assists in developing and implementing goals, objectives, operational policies and procedures for the Transportation unit.
- Investigates complaints and resolves problems.
- May represent department to internal staff, students or faculty and coordinate activities or handle correspondence, records, files or reports regarding support for any university travel needs.
- This position must be available outside of the normal work hours to monitor and assist the shuttle program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Five (5) years related experience. Knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws regulating bus and van use. Strong verbal and written communication skills and effective communication with customers. Excellent computer and technical skills.
- Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
- Physical Requirements: able to lift 25 pounds or more
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Supervises bus drivers and all other employees in the transportation unit.
