Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Supervises the operations of a public transit service in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining positive customer relations with passengers and other members of the University community.
General Responsibilities
- Supervises the operations of a public transit service, including scheduling bus operators, assigning buses to routes, advising bus operators of detours and other day-to-day operating changes, assuring that bus schedules have sufficient staff coverage, counseling bus operators on complaints from passengers and the general public, etc.
- Participates in the recruiting, training, and evaluation of campus bus operators.
- Develops and prepares public transit routes and schedules and bus operator work assignments; evaluates the effectiveness of such routes, schedules, and work assignments.
- Conforms to all university, local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations applicable to public transportation operations. Monitors the safety and mechanical operation of the public transit vehicles operating during their assigned shift and takes actions to ensure safe and efficient operations or report any variances from established standards.
- Prepares logs, forms, and reports on the ridership and operations of the assigned public transportation vehicle.
- Responds to accidents and ensure that all federal and state regulations and university policies and campus bus procedures for handling accidents are followed.
- Ensures Fleet Maintenance Attendants are adequately scheduled so that the fleet of transit buses are washed, fueled, and cleaned each evening.
- Works with Diesel Mechanics to coordinate service, repair, and other maintenance.
- Operates a public transit vehicle at times when no bus operators are available.
