Job Description Summary / TWC Summary
Under general supervision, the TRIO Project Coordinator is responsible for taking lead of planning, organizing, and executing the operations of the day-to-day program services of TRIO TS. With the leadership of the Director, the TS Coordinator will assist program staff in creating, overseeing, evaluating, and evolving academic initiatives, services and other activities that will support the mission/objectives of the TS program.
This is a Grant Funded position.
Essential Duties Summary
- Assist the project director with the implantation of a college preparatory curriculum (math, English, composition, science, foreign language, and computer science), test preparation, and tutorials designed to meet the academic needs of each participant.
- Assist in planning and coordinating educational program activity, including training to academic and summer part-time staff and scheduling classes.
- Provides comprehensive academic, personal, career and financial aid counseling to each project participant.
- Assesses and documents the academic and motivational needs of students selected for participation in program activities.
- Assists in publicizing the Talent Search Program and in obtaining nominations from target schools in an effort to identify, screen and select eligible participants.
- Assists Talent Search seniors applying for admission to post-secondary institutions and in securing financial aid resources.
- Monitors and documents the academic progress of participants in each of the project’s target schools.
- Gathers and provides information on post-secondary entrance requirements, availability of financial aid, and other data which serve to motivate and prepare Talent Search participants to transition to college.
- Plans and implements cultural enrichment activities for the summer component.
- Supervises and trains undergraduate tutors/counselors.
- Engages in collaborative efforts with other TRIO precollegiate programs to seek internal and external resources to augment counseling services.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Hiring Range $55,038.89 - $70,174.59
Education Bachelor’s degree AND one (1) to three (3) years of related experience.
Required Licensing/Certification Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- TRIO Department of Education, policies, procedures, and practices.
- TRIO Blumen database
- Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
- Academic advising and college, career, financial aid and economic literacy activities and services for low income and potential first-generation college youth.
- Personal and career counseling
- Barriers to postsecondary education faced by low income and potential first-generation college youth in target area.
Skill in:
- Developing an Individual Academic Plan for High School students
- Problem-solving and decision-making.
- Multitasking and time management.
- Exceptional interpersonal, counseling, communication, organization, and facilitation.
- Both verbal and written communication.
Ability to:
- Prepare detailed reports.
- Work independently.
- Must be available to work on Saturdays to assist with scheduled program events and provide on-site support; flexibility in work hours is required based on event and program needs.
- Regular weekly travel to assigned target schools is required to assist program delivery, maintain communication with school personnel, and support ongoing collaboration with administrators and staff.
Work Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience with Federal TRIO programs assisting disadvantage, low income, and first-generation pre-college students
- Experience coordinating project programming and field experiences
- Experience advising and assisting students with the college admissions and financial aid process
- Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Project Participants
- Formal training and/or work experience promoting the completion of a rigorous secondary school program of study
- Formal training and/or work experience increasing post-secondary enrollment rates and promoting college degree attainment rates for low-income and potential first-generation college students
Working/Environmental Conditions
- Prolonged standing and/or walking
