Position Highlights

The Tutoring Program Coordinator contributes to a team of professional staff and graduate assistants. This position will share the responsibility of supervising 70-90 student tutors who provide academic support to thousands of university students. This position assists with the daily operations of a variety of tutoring programs, including drop-in services, private appointments, course embedded tutoring, and customized tutoring models. The Tutoring Program Coordinator contributes to all facets of the team's efforts in the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and supervision of tutors.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the leadership and coordination of all tutoring services to ensure effective, positive, and engaging student academic support.
  • Contribute to the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of a team of student peer tutors and tutor leads.
  • Support the Tutoring Manager in recruiting, hiring, and training Graduate Assistants, and work collaboratively with them to address operational challenges and support program enhancements.
  • Maintain student worker information and scheduling databases in alignment with budgetary parameters.
  • Assist in approving payroll and resolving related discrepancies.
  • Provide problem-solving assistance by working with the Tutoring Manager to interpret departmental policies, identify areas for enhancement, and recommend improvements.
  • Offer direct tutoring support in THINK TANK spaces within the coordinator's academic expertise area when needed.
  • Ensure student worker compliance with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) requirements and other mandated departmental training.
  • Partner with program leadership to design and implement assessment strategies for evaluating learning outcomes, service quality, and emerging student learning trends.
  • Collaborate with key campus partners when possible-including the SALT Center and CATS Academics-to coordinate academic support programs and expand access to tutoring services.
  • Assist with providing oversight of daily operations of Online tutoring and facilitate specialized training for virtual learning environments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of tutoring principles, effective learning practices, and program administration.
Knowledge of FERPA regulations and ethical best practices for working with student employees.
Knowledge of CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) standards.
Knowledge of University of Arizona student employment procedures and policies.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, including strong presentation, public speaking, and writing abilities.
Ability to work effectively with campus community.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a demonstrated openness to innovation and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in Education, Math Education, Science Education, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in student success, learning center, or equivalent academic support environments.
  • Experience supporting students in STEM disciplines.
