Two Assistant Professors in Public Administration
Job Summary
The Institute of Public Administration at Leiden University is seeking two Assistant Professors to contribute to research and teaching in public policy, public management, governance, and public values, with a focus on sustainability or digitalisation. These positions involve strengthening the team in The Hague and shaping the future of public governance.
Responsibilities
- Teach, improve, and potentially develop courses in bachelor and master programs in Public Administration.
- Supervise bachelor’s, master’s, and potentially PhD theses.
- Initiate and conduct independent research in public policy or public administration, leading to impactful publications.
- Apply for external research funding such as NWO or Horizon Europe.
- Contribute to administrative and organizational duties within the institute.
- Participate in national and international academic research networks.
- Collaborate with societal stakeholders in knowledge exchange and impact activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Hold a completed PhD in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, or a closely related field.
- Have a clear research agenda with demonstrable affinity to sustainability or digitalisation.
- Possess publications in national and international scientific journals or potential to achieve them.
- Be enthusiastic about teaching and experienced in university teaching, open to innovative methods.
- Teach in core programs such as Public Administration (MSc), and thematic programs like Science for Sustainable Societies (BSc) or Governance of Sustainability (MSc).
- Hold a university teaching qualification (BKO) or be willing to obtain one within two years.
- Work independently and as a team player, with experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and societal engagement as an asset.
- Have near native proficiency in Dutch and English, or willingness to reach C1 level in Dutch within two years.

- An initial 12-month employment contract, potentially leading to a permanent position.
- A salary range from €4,537 to €6,209 gross per month based on a full-time appointment (38 hours).
