Two-Year Visiting Assistant Professor in Creative Writing: Fiction
We invite applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing (Fiction). We seek a passionate fiction writer to join our thriving English Department, which offers concentrations in creative writing for both majors and minors. Our program sponsors a literary festival, a long-standing visiting writers’ series, community readings, the Kristina Stahl Writer-in-Residence Program, and the Jennifer Jahrling Forese Writer-in-Residence Program. Colby is a highly selective liberal arts college recognized for excellence in undergraduate education and close student-faculty interaction. We support students who edit two literary magazines, write for ECHO, Colby’s student newspaper, and engage actively in service learning and interdisciplinary partnerships. Our students benefit from an innovative curriculum that includes offerings such as short forms, documentary radio, and environmental writing. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their creative activity, teaching, and service, will promote inclusion and belonging at Colby. For this position, we seek a fiction writer with demonstrated undergraduate teaching experience, a strong publication record, and, at a minimum, one published book. Teaching responsibilities will include fiction writing workshops and one W1 writing-intensive course for first-year students. Applicants must have an M.F.A. To apply, please submit applications through Interfolio at https://apply.interfolio.com/174099. Include a cover letter, CV, three confidential letters of recommendation, a statement of teaching philosophy, a sample syllabus, and a writing sample of approximately 20 pages. The review of materials will begin on November 3, 2025, and continue until the position is filled.
