Participates in and represent Anthropology at college-wide
events for undeclared students organized by the Office of
Undergraduate Education. and the Advising Programs Office.
Liaise with the Advising Programs Office and the Office of
Undergraduate Education.
Organize and promote undergraduate events for concentrators,
interested students, and department members.
Serves as an expert resource for faculty, students and the
external community concerning information on the University
curricular structure, the Anthropology concentrations (Archaeology
and Social Anthropology), related concentrations, and all matters
concerning advising.
Maintains forms, student sites, and undergraduate section of
the department website.
Advises students on funding for term-time and summer research
experiences.
Serves as a liaison with Concentration Advisers about the
progress of Anthropology concentrators. Supports ongoing assessment
of the undergraduate program.
Manages senior thesis deadlines, evaluations, and archiving and
arranges for reading of honors theses.
Coordinates and designs communications to concentrators
including production of Undergraduate Program publications
(hardcopy and web-based) and serve as listserv administrator.
Develops and monitors the Undergraduate Office budget and
manages the department's undergraduate student awards.
Updates and monitors concentrator records, using electronic
degree audit and maintaining student files. Apprises students of
their progress in meeting concentration requirements, and compiles
materials for degree meetings including calculating grade averages
for honors candidates.
Ensures that the Undergraduate Office is in compliance with
University policies, including student privacy and grading, and
ensures the integrity of undergraduate student academic data.
Serves as a liaison with past concentrators and maintain
departmental alumni database
Completes special projects related to the Undergraduate Program
for the Director of Undergraduate Studies. Performs other duties as
assigned.
Catalog Coordinator & RoomBook Administrator:
The Undergraduate Program Administrator establishes and implements
procedures for accurate reporting on Department of Anthropology
courses.
- Maintain Anthropology course listings in my.harvard.edu.
- Responsible for the submission of preferred meeting times and
locations for Anthropology courses and oversees departments
classroom scheduling for courses using EMS RoomBook.
- Completes special projects related to the program curricular
offerings for members of the faculty.
- Maintain master course catalog for the department.
- Serve as an expert resource for matters related to classrooms,
course scheduling, FAS course policies, etc. Liaise with the FAS
Registrar's Office.
- Coordinate the collection and reporting of 3-year teaching plan
for Archaeology and Social Anthropology programs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in a higher education setting, with
experience in student services.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree, experience working with students in a higher
education environment and experience using student information
systems preferred. Experience at Harvard a plus. Must have superior
organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks
simultaneously and meet deadlines in a busy, complex environment
with competing priorities. Must have excellent written and verbal
communication skills and possess impeccable attention to detail.
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and to
communicate and work effectively with a range of personalities and
styles. Flexibility, adaptability and a "customer-service"
orientation are essential. This position requires sound judgment,
tact, maturity and poise, and the ability to handle highly
confidential information with a high level of discretion. Must be
proficient in standard office software, including Word, Excel,
SharePoint, e-mail and calendar systems, and must be comfortable
with learning to use new software, both stand-alone and
web-based.

Work Format Details
This position has been determined by school or unit leaders that
some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively
performed at a non-Harvard location. The work schedule and location
will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon
operational needs. When not working at a Harvard or
Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must
work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the
University’s Policy on
Employment Outside of Massachusetts .
