Specific Job Title: Public Safety Supervisor
Reports to: Director of Operations
Campus: Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan
Job Summary: Public Safety Supervisor primarily serves as the shift supervisor and shall be responsible for the performance of all Officers, Command Center Staff, and Public Safety Staff during their respective shift. Supervisor will be assigned to various special events as needed, and supervise assigned staff. Supervisor will ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and guests, as well as the protection of university property and assets.
Essential Functions:
- Perform duties in uniform as the shift supervisor and be responsible for the performance of all Officers, Command Center Staff, and Public Safety Staff during the shift.
- Supervise Public Safety Staff at special events as directed.
- Monitor activities and conditions throughout the campus and maintain radio communication with staff.
- Respond to major incidents and emergencies, and coordinate response activities.
- Act as liaison with law enforcement and other outside agencies.
- Visit and inspect fixed post assignments each tour.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Ensure that incidents are properly investigated, documented, and required reports are prepared.
- Conduct roll call at beginning of each shift.
- Maintain proficiency in all Public Safety computer systems.
Competencies: Candidates for this position must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be customer service oriented. Must be certified in administering CPR or First Aid and proficient in the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator.
Supervisory Responsibility: Public Safety Officers, Per Diem Public Safety Officers, Building Attendants
Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma (BA/BS preferred); 5-7 years supervisory experience in security or law enforcement (7-10 years preferred); valid NYS Drivers License; New York State Security guard license; New York State Fire Guard License (to be obtained within six months).
