Universitair docent patiëntparticipatie Emma Center for Personalized Medicine
As universitair docent bij het Emma Center for Personalized Medicine (Emma CPM), you contribute to the further development and professionalization of patient participation at Emma CPM. You structurally incorporate the voice of patients and parents in research, treatment, care innovation, implementation, and evaluation. You are involved in advising research agendas, including trial readiness and outcome measures, with an emphasis on rare diseases, and in safeguarding patient interests in policy and grant applications. You also play a key role in increasing awareness and involvement of patients and their representatives within and outside Emma CPM.
Your tasks include:
- Strategic and substantive leadership
- Developing the profile of the patient participation team: vision, goals, methods;
- Contributing to the setup of expertise centers for rare diseases;
- Assembling a representative team (parents, patients, possibly foundations);
- Leading meetings, documenting, and monitoring actions of this team.
- Grant opportunities & networks
- Identifying subsidy programs focused on rare diseases and/or patient participation;
- Improving collaborations between researchers and patient representatives;
- Providing input for grant applications and the execution of research.
- Mentorship and role modeling
- Encouraging other parents/patients to become active;
- Assisting in establishing or structuring new patient initiatives.
- Exposure & positioning Emma CPM
- Supporting visibility and public profiling of Emma CPM;
- Contributing to communication and knowledge translation;
- Representing at public events, media appearances, symposia, etc.
Requirements: We are looking for someone with at least the following knowledge and qualifications: PhD in medicine, biomedical sciences, or related fields; Affinity with scientific research, patient care, and interests; Strategic insight and ability to develop and execute plans; Proven experience in advocating for patient interests; Strong communication skills and high organizational sensitivity; Proactive and entrepreneurial attitude; Structured and communicative; A team player who invests in a good collaborative climate; Keeping up with developments in your field; Skill in dealing with diverse stakeholders and balancing interests.
Employment conditions: A one-year contract with prospects for permanence. Salary scale 11: €4,818 to €6,594 gross per month for a full-time position (depending on education and experience), plus 8.3% end-of-year bonus. Vacation hours: 190.4 per year for full-time, with the option to save hours. Pension build-up with ABP, of which we pay 70%. Travel allowance: 100% public transport for 7 km or more one way, or €0.18 per km up to 40 km one way by own transport. Bicycle scheme: €0.18 per km. Free and unlimited access to trainings via GoodHabitz. Active staff association and Young Amsterdam UMC association organizing activities.

The Emma Center for Personalized Medicine is dedicated to providing accurate diagnosis, innovative therapy, and personalized care for patients and families with rare genetic disorders. Our multidisciplinary approach integrates research, patient care, and education to advance personalized medicine and improve patient outcomes. The center results from a collaboration between Emma Children’s Hospital and the Department of Human Genetics, with about 20 scientists contributing their expertise.
