The Department at the University of Vienna is the largest academic center covering all fields relating to the German language and German-language literatures. The core areas are Modern German Literature, Medieval German Language and Literature, Germanic Linguistic, German as a Foreign and Second Language, and German Teaching Methodology. In addition, the areas of Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, Media Theory, Literary Theory, and Literature for Children and Young Adults are well established. More than 5000 students are enrolled.

Your personal sphere of play:

As a university assistant post doc, you will have the opportunity to work at one of the largest departments of German Philology worldwide consisting of an inspiring group of people dedicated to a manifold range of research and academic teaching.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You build up an independent research profile in the field of Early German Language and Literature.
  • You are involved in research projects and scientific studies in the area of Early German Language and Literature.
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise your students.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in subject in the field of Early German Language and Literature
  • A focus on literature from the turn of the Middle Ages to the early modern period is required.
  • Expertise in the field of the materiality of tradition is desirable.
  • Outstanding dissertation
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media
  • Experience in independently teaching university courses is expected
  • Experience in participating in research projects
  • Didactic skills/experience in e-learning
  • IT skills
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures is desirable
  • Experience in student support
  • Excellent English skills (C 1)
  • Team player with high social/communication skills
