Your future position is at the Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research in the Biodiversity Dynamics and Conservation Group, a team of about 30 persons. Our group studies patterns of biodiversity and biodiversity change at various spatial and temporal scales, with a particular focus on the consequences of human-driven environmental change, especially climate and land use change. Our model systems are mainly vascular plants, but also include other taxonomic groups. We apply a range of statistical methods to existing datasets or to data collected by own field observations and experiments. In addition, we have a focus on the development and application of predictive models of species’ range dynamics. For more information please see https://bdc.univie.ac.at/.

We are currently offering a post-doc position (temporary replacement, until 30/06/2028). The successful candidate should collaborate in research focused on climate-change effects on mountain plants and expand our teaching profile, especially also with respect to botanical field courses and data analysis. We are looking for persons that combine excellent botanical expertise and fieldwork experience with advanced statistical and bio-informatics expertise. The Department of Botany and Biodiversity Research is part of the faculty of Life Sciences with 10,000 students and a highly international team of > 1000 employees.

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You participate in and contribute to ongoing research projects.
  • You apply for new projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You publish internationally and give lectures.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise master students within your field of research.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.

This is part of your personality:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in ecology or a related field
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in relevant journals
  • Advanced statistical skills and experience with relevant software, especially with R
  • Experience with analysis of geographical data, including GIS software
  • Excellent knowledge of the central European flora, including mountain plants
  • Excellent knowledge of English (C1)
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
