Your place of work
The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises the Dean's Office, a Student Service Center, four institutes, and the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching and Practice. Your future position is based with the new Professorship of Psychotherapy and Psychotherapy Research (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Probst) at the Institute for Clinical and Health Psychology. The research group investigates Processes and Effectiveness of Psychotherapy and Therapeutic Interventions. Other key research areas of the professorship include:
- Evidence-Based Psychotherapy
- Digitalization, e.g., AI, in Psychotherapy
- The Use of Psychological and Neuroscientific Methods in Psychotherapy Research
The working group actively promotes open and reproducible science (e.g., through pre-registration and the sharing of materials and data) and values diverse perspectives.
Your future tasks
Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:
- You strengthen the research profile in the field of psychotherapy research.
- You support research activities on the use of artificial intelligence in psychotherapy.
- You plan and conduct your own scientific studies.
- You publish articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
- You give presentations at national and international scientific conferences.
- You participate in science communication activities.
- You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
- You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
- You supervise students.
- You participate in evaluation measures and in quality assurance.
- You take on administrative tasks in research and teaching.
This is part of your personality
- Completed doctoral/PhD studies in psychology or other related fields.
- Experience in research projects on human-AI interaction, preferably in a therapeutic context.
- In-depth knowledge of AI, LLM, Conversational AI (voicebots, chatbots, AI avatars, AI videos, AI voices).
- In-depth knowledge of advanced statistical methods (e.g., multilevel modeling).
- Proven research competence and initiative through international publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Knowledge of relevant AI software.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
- Leadership skills and ability to work in a team.
- Diligent, independent work methods.
- Strong sense of responsibility.
- Excellent written and spoken English and German skills (C1).
Desirable qualifications
- Experience with and interest in innovative study-designs for investigating the potential benefits of artificial intelligence in psychotherapy.
- Knowledge of programming languages is a plus.
- Psychotherapy training (whether currently in progress or completed) is a plus.
- Work experience with clinical or mentally distressed populations is a plus.
- Knowledge of psychophysiology is a plus.

Fixed-term contract and fair salary: The basic salary of EUR 5.014,30 (14 times a year) increases if we can credit professional experience. We offer an initial contract for three years. This contract can be extended to six years in total by mutual agreement.
