Your personal sphere of influence:

As a University Assistant (Praedoc), you will work at the Institute of European Ethnology, which is very well-connected with universities and cultural institutions in Austria and internationally. You will collaborate with colleagues engaged in a wide range of research and academic teaching, contributing to a vibrant environment of research groups focusing on ethnography, materiality, urban/spatial studies, and multimodal/audiovisual research established at the institute. The topic of your doctoral thesis should fall within the scope of the research area historical dimensions of everyday cultures. https://euroethnologie.univie.ac.at/en/department/staff/reseachers/alexa-faerber/.

The employment duration is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extension declaration.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• Participation in research, teaching and administration
• Participation in research projects / research studies
• Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
• We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
• Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
• Supervision of students
• Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
• Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

This is part of your personality:

• Completed Master's degree or Diploma, in the field European Ethnology or a related empirical cultural studies discipline
• Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
• Professional competence in European Ethnology and historical cultural analysis, anthropology of knowledge, and/or urban anthropology
• methodological competence in methods in ethnography and/or historical cultural analysis
• Didactic competences / experience with e-learning
• High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
• Excellent command of written and spoken English
• IT user skills
• Ability to work in a team
• Desirable qualifications are - Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning - Knowledge of university processes and structures - Experience abroad - Experience in academic work - Basic knowledge in one or more of the professorship`s areas of activity, listed above
