On 07 th of October of 2026, the University of Huelva issues the following resolution for the recruitment of a University Graduate with Doctoral Degree commisioned by the Ramón y Cajal grant awarded by Resolution of 18 November 2024 of the Presidency of the State Research Agency, which resolves the procedure for the award of Ramón y Cajal grants, 2023 call.

Specific Requirements
The selected candidate should demonstrate the ability to conduct research on silviculture, forest dynamics, biodiversity, and forest ecosystem regeneration. Solid experience in the study of natural regeneration processes, biodiversity, the dynamics of forest populations and communities, and forest responses to different silvicultural practices and disturbances is expected. The candidate should be able to integrate different spatial and temporal scales, combining data on forest structure and composition, biodiversity, regeneration, and disturbance dynamics to understand the development and resilience of forest ecosystems. Experience in conducting research applied to sustainable forest management will also be valued, including the analysis of silvicultural alternatives aimed at promoting regeneration, conserving biodiversity, and improving the adaptation of forest ecosystems to climate change. The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of Mediterranean, temperate, and boreal forest ecosystems. The candidate should demonstrate high standards of scientific productivity, with solid experience in publishing scientific articles in international indexed journals, preferably in first-quartile (Q1) journals.

Amount: 2.049,30 € gross, monthly including the prorated share of extra payments
Duties and responsibilities:
The hired person will analyze data from forest sciences, focusing on projects related to the impacts of disturbances on growth, regeneration and biodiversity.
Their responsibilities will include:
- Writing scientific articles on this topic.
- Coordinate and realize fieldwork session.
- Supportting grant applications to develop research lines in silviculture facing climate change at the University of Huelva.
- Help supervising students in Canada and Spain.

Selection process
- Academic background and scientific specialization (max. 1 point): PhD in Forestry or Environmental Sciences, with specialized training in silviculture and/or plant biodiversity.
- Research experience and scientific track record (max. 3 points): Established research experience in Mediterranean, temperate, or boreal ecosystems.
- Scientific output and dissemination of results (max. 2 points) Publication of scientific articles in high-impact international journals in the field of forestry and ecology, with experience in the use of advanced methodologies such as isotopes, advanced statistics, and modelling.
- International experience and fieldwork (max. 2 points) Extensive international experience in boreal and European countries, including the organization, coordination, and implementation of fieldwork campaigns in remote and logistically challenging environments.
- Interview (max. 2 points – exceptional basis): On an exceptional basis, and only if deemed necessary for the proper development of the research activities, a personal interview may be conducted. The need for such an interview must be duly justified, and its score shall not exceed two points. The interview will assess aspects such as the suitability of the candidate’s profile for the project, scientific leadership capacity, and the coherence of the research trajectory.
Assessment: 8 will be the minimum number of points required to pass the selection process.
