University Instructor in law

We invite applications for two positions of University Instructor in law. The appointments will be for a fixed term from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2031. The positions broadly encompass teaching in various legal fields in the Bachelor’s Programme in Law.

The appointees’ duties include the provision of undergraduate instruction and thesis supervision in the degree programme. The appointees will also contribute to curriculum and learning material design and development, as well as carry out jointly agreed administrative, guidance and supervision duties. In accordance with the University of Helsinki Regulations, an appointee to the position of university instructor must hold an applicable second-cycle degree and have teaching experience. Pedagogical training and the ability to produce learning material and deliver and develop teaching in a variety of ways will be particularly appreciated.

Pursuant to the Government Decree on Universities (770/2009), appointees to teaching and research positions at the University must be proficient in the language in which they provide instruction, in other words, Finnish or Swedish. In this case, the language of instruction of at least one of the positions is Finnish. The other position’s language of instruction can be Swedish, but we require at least satisfactory oral and written skills in both of the national languages of Finland (Finnish and Swedish) from both appointees. A person not educated in Finland in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from the Swedish requirement. To successfully attend to the duties of the positions, appointees must also have good English skills. The assessment of applicant merits considers teaching experience, pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills. Experience of teaching higher education students and adults with higher education qualifications in Finland and abroad, as well as versatile language skills, will be considered an asset.

The salary will be based on level 5 of the job requirement scheme for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointees will be paid a salary component based on personal performance. At the beginning of employment, the monthly salary will be approximately €3,900–€4,100 in accordance with the salary scale valid from 1 June 2026. The positions include a six-month trial period.

The University of Helsinki offers its staff occupational health and fitness services, professional development opportunities, and a first-class research and teaching environment, alongside the conditions necessary for international collaboration.
