Senior Project Manager

The implementation of the new finance system is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a difference to the way in which University departments process and manage their financial transactions. As the senior project manager, you will be responsible for the ensuring the deliverables of the work streams are completed on time, whilst managing project risks, a variety of team members and integration with other work streams.

This is a varied role which will require collaboration and interaction with staff with a wide ranging level of skills and expertise from within the Finance Division and also the wider University.

The Role

The role requires management of resources needed for the planning, development and delivery of specified areas within the work stream to avoid bottlenecks and conflicting demands.

You will have an accountancy background and work closely with Business Leads and project teams, with oversight from the Executive and Project Sponsors.

You will be required to work to the standards and governance protocols directed by an overall programme or by the business area in which the project falls and will influence the strategic direction and structure of those programmes.

Working with other project managers, you will establish and implement protocols for potential changes to scope and manage the day-to-day activities of the work stream teams including regular checkpoint reviews, budget, presentations to Boards / stakeholders and senior level management.

Your Skills

You will be able to demonstrate a logical and pragmatic approach to project management with the ability to adapt to meet the delivery needs.

You will hold a professional qualification alongside a project management qualification and have excellent inter-personal, analytical and communication skills.

Alongside these you will possess:

  • Excellent planning for short, medium and long term using MS Projects
  • Understanding of ERP (preferably Oracle Financials)
  • Identify and pro-actively manage important risks, issues and problems effectively.
  • Project Management Practitioner accreditation

Location

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows.

The Finance Division has embraced hybrid working and individuals are currently working with their team two days a week from a University site, principally Greenwich House, and three days worked remotely (for those working a standard Mon to Fri week). This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
