University Assistant/Associate Professor in Finance

University Assistant/Associate Professor in Finance

The Faculty of Economics invites applications for a University Assistant/Associate Professor in Finance. The post is available from September 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Faculty seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate with research expertise in finance, particularly in one or more of the following areas: finance theory, empirical finance, and macro-finance. The successful applicant will strengthen and complement existing research within the Faculty.

The role primarily involves research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a programme of high-quality research, contributing to the international profile of the Faculty through publication in leading journals. They will also contribute to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including lectures, seminars, and classes, and will be expected to undertake examining and administrative duties as required.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Finance, Economics, or a closely related discipline at the time of application and must have at least three years' post-PhD teaching and research experience. They should demonstrate evidence of research excellence or clear potential to achieve it, together with the ability to contribute effectively to teaching and to the academic life of the Faculty.

Appointment will be made at an appropriate point on the scale for University Assistant or Associate Professors. Appointment as an Assistant Professor will normally be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment thereafter subject to satisfactory performance. Appointment as Associate Professor will typically require a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement.
