Detailed Description:
The School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) at the University of San Diego seeks qualified applicants for a 9-month, full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. This position is dedicated to teaching and research at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels. Leadership is a multi-disciplinary field. Our students focus on a variety of leadership areas such as: for-profit, nonprofit, preK-12, higher education, and coaching and organizational consulting. The successful candidate will serve as the Director of Leadership Studies Minor and provide strategic and innovative leadership to SOLES undergraduate programs. The candidate will report to the chair of the Department of Leadership Studies. The role includes aligning minor program policies and procedures, managing undergraduate student support services, overseeing undergraduate research initiatives and liaising with the Office of Undergraduate Research, maintaining and responding to accreditation requirements and academic program review recommendations, and collaborating with department chair(s), academic program manager(s), and faculty to address emerging needs and trends in our undergraduate programs. This Coordinator of Undergraduate Programs, SOLES administrative position is a three-year renewable position that is reviewed annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching Excellence: Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in leadership. Courses may cover topics such as leadership theories, leading teams, organizational change, governance and policy, leadership and technology/artificial intelligence, diversity and equity, strategic planning, and leadership development.
- Dissertation, Thesis, and Action Research/Capstone Advising: Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students on their capstone projects/research, providing guidance and support in the development of original scholarly work relevant to methodology and leadership areas.
- Curriculum Development: Contribute actively to curriculum design and enhancement, ensuring alignment with a broad representation of current research, industry trends, and accreditation standards in leadership studies.
- Research and Scholarship: Conduct and publish high-quality research in reputable academic journals and present findings at conferences, contributing to the field's knowledge base in leadership.
- Service and Leadership: Engage in service activities within the department, school, university, and professional organizations, demonstrating leadership in academic governance, committee work, and community outreach efforts.
- Community Engagement: Foster partnerships and collaborations with the undergraduate colleges, educational associations, and stakeholders to promote applied research, professional development opportunities, and community impact initiatives.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Terminal Degree: An earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Leadership, Educational Leadership, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
- Experience: Substantial experience in leadership roles, preferably with administrative experience at the executive level.
- Teaching Experience: Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students at both masters and doctoral levels, with a strong commitment to innovative pedagogy, student engagement, and academic rigor.
- Leadership Skills: Proven leadership abilities within academic or professional settings, including the capacity to collaborate effectively, lead initiatives, and contribute to institutional governance.
- Commitment to Inclusive Excellence: A demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence in education, with experience working effectively with student populations and communities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervision experience
- Administrative experience
- A record of scholarly achievement, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national or international conferences, focused on issues relevant to leadership.
- Leadership within academic or professional settings, including the capacity to collaborate effectively, lead initiatives, and contribute to institutional governance.
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching formats and learning management systems.
Posting Salary:
$8,312-$10,159/month; Excellent Benefits
