The Department of History of Art at York is one of the largest and most vibrant in the UK, with academic colleagues researching across different media, in periods ranging from antiquity to the present. We teach undergraduate and postgraduate students across a broad range of programmes, with an emphasis on small-group teaching, first-hand encounters with art, and equality of opportunity. We coordinate extensive research and teaching partnerships with major national and regional museums and heritage organisations through York Art History Collaborations.
