Job Summary
The primary focus of this position is to provide continuous patrols of the campus, respond to reports of crime, handle calls for service, and ensure facility security. Additional essential duties include collecting, recording, and securing evidence from crime scenes, interviewing involved persons, writing reports, and making arrests for violations of state law and local ordinances. Other responsibilities include assisting motorists, responding to medical emergencies, testifying in court, serving as backup dispatcher, assisting the Criminal Investigations Division and local law enforcement agencies as needed, executing criminal warrants, providing security at athletic and special events as directed by a supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned. The Home Department will be based at the Carrollton location but may periodically assist in covering the Newnan Campus on a rotating schedule.
Responsibilities
- Patrol campus areas and facilities by vehicle or foot to deter and detect criminal activity, enforce applicable laws and regulations, and promote a safe and secure campus environment.
- Respond to student concerns, including mental health and medical issues, and help in line with training and established protocols.
- Perform assigned law enforcement duties at special events, including commencement ceremonies, athletic events, concerts, and other university sponsored activities, to ensure public safety, enforce applicable laws and regulations, and maintain order.
- Participate in community- and problem-oriented policing activities by engaging with the campus community, supporting crime prevention efforts, identifying and addressing community concerns, and fostering collaborative partnerships to improve public safety and quality of life.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or GED.
Required Experience
Must be able to be approved by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council to be a Peace Officer in the State of Georgia. Must be able to complete the Georgia Basic Law Enforcement Training Course. Not have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime, the punishment for which could have been imprisonment in the federal or state prison or institution, nor have been convicted of sufficient misdemeanors to establish a pattern of disregard for the law. Must be able to speak and write English in an effective manner. Be found, after examination by a licensed physician or surgeon, to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect his/her exercising the powers or duties of a peace officer.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred Experience
Two years of experience as a POST-certified Peace Officer. Two years of post-high school education from an Accredited College or University or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and experience Progress towards or completion of the GA POST intermediate certificate. Experience in Criminal Investigations.
