University Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology
Salary grade W 3 LBesG | Civil Servant (tenured)
to be filled as of 01 October 2027.
Tasks and expectations:
We are seeking a candidate who is internationally recognized with outstanding achievements in a current research area of pharmaceutical technology. Experience in RNA research is desirable.
The professorship is located at the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (IPBW). The candidate’s research should represent a meaningful contribution to the institute’s focus areas, regarding both methods and topics. We expressly expect the candidate to establish networks within the Faculty of Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Geography and Geosciences, the University Medical Center, and research institutes in the Mainz region, such as the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research. The candidate is expected to acquire competitive third-party funding. In addition, the development of and active participation in research activities such as Collaborative Research Centers (SFBs) and graduate schools involving the faculty and/or the profile areas of JGU is desired. Involvement in the Transregio-SFB 319 “RMaP – RNA Modification and Processing“ and SFB 1551 “Polymer Concepts in Cellular Function“ is a particular asset.
The future holder of the position is expected to represent the department of Pharmaceutical Technology in teaching in its full breadth. The candidate will conduct courses in pharmaceutical technology in the state examination degree program “Pharmaceutical Sciences” (in German). We also expect the candidate to contribute to supervising final theses and doctoral dissertations. A license to practice as a pharmacist (Approbation) is required, as is prior teaching experience in pharmaceutical technology. The holder of the position actively contributes to advancing the contents and concepts of the degree program, e.g., in terms of modern didactical methods and the application of digital tools in teaching. Active involvement in academic self-administration of the university, the Faculty, and the Institute of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences is expected.

Requirements:
- In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in section 49 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.
- In addition to a doctoral degree and other academic achievements, candidates must demonstrate, in particular, teaching aptitude and the ability to lead an independent research group. The additional research achievements may be demonstrated, in particular, through a junior professorship, a tenure-track position, a habilitation, or through work as a research assistant at a university or a non-university research institution, or through research work in the private sector or another sector of society, either in Germany or abroad.
- The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and JGU are committed to the close personal mentoring of students and therefore expect teaching staff to have a strong presence at the university. A cooperative, team-oriented and proactive work attitude, strong communication skills, and the willingness to assume responsibility – including further professional development in accordance with JGU’s leadership guidelines – is also expected.
