University (senior) lecturer in science didactics – Physics
Are you an enthusiastic scientist in the field of science didactics with a drive for innovative research? Do you want to help us translate fundamental insights into challenging activities in teacher training? And are you willing to share your experience and contribute to innovation in learning and teaching within our science faculty? Then come work at the Institute for Science Education of the Faculty of Science as a university lecturer (senior lecturer).
The faculty aims to give new impetus to research and education in science didactics, with special attention to physics.
The research of the Institute for Science Education focuses on subject-specific thinking in science subjects and the practical knowledge and skills of science teachers. The emphasis is on research in the context of content and innovations in (secondary) education, with the development of scientific literacy as a recurring theme. Current research includes design-based learning, citizenship skills, digital literacy and computational thinking , teachers' pedagogical knowledge, and education for sustainable development. Many of our projects are designed as educational design research, which produces both practical products and contributions to the scientific knowledge base. Such projects are carried out in collaboration with stakeholders from the field, such as Dutch secondary schools.
Our institute offers a two-year master's program for first-degree teachers in the sciences, specializing in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. In this program, we collaborate with the Radboud Teachers' Academy, other institutes within the science faculty, and secondary schools in the region. We offer electives to inspire bachelor's students to learn and teach in their field. We also aim to apply our expertise to other programs within the faculty by contributing to educational innovation and the professional development of teachers.
In this role, you will design, coordinate, and implement components of our educational portfolio, supervise student research projects, and maintain contacts with our partner institutions.
We encourage you to develop an innovative line of research and contribute to the further development of our institute's research program. In doing so, you will help shape the research themes of scientific literacy and transformative science education and align them with the institute's educational activities. Physics will be the primary focus of your research, but we encourage interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers within the institute ( team science ) and with external partners. Together with your colleagues, you will secure funding for research projects funded by Dutch and international sources. You will supervise PhD students and other junior researchers.
You will make a positive contribution to the culture and functioning of our institute and the faculty as a whole by organizing academic and social activities, participating in partnerships and committees, and acting as a sparring partner for colleagues. Depending on your experience, you will be appointed as a university lecturer or associate professor.
