An exciting opportunity to provide legal counsel across all commercial aspects of Information Technology, including complex, high-value projects and digital transformation.
We are seeking an experienced and skilled University Solicitor, Information Technology to join our Office of General Counsel partnering with the Chief Information and Digital Officer supporting all IT software and system commercial contracts, as well as complex IT projects and digital transformation programs.
Reporting to the General Counsel but embedded within the IT Portfolio, you will deliver high-quality legal services, supporting the University’s strategic technology objectives in a dynamic and collaborative environment. Additionally, you will:
- Provide a proactive, highly respected strategic legal advisory service to the IT Portfolio on behalf of the Office of the General Counsel supporting complex, high-value work.
- Provide timely, accurate and practical legal advice on a wide range of issues affecting the University’s IT projects, digital transformation program of works, and ongoing operational software and system contracts.
- Work with key stakeholders to enable high quality and consistent legal advice and support to achievement of the strategic technology objectives of the University.
- Lead legal approaches to risk management, procurement, privacy and commercial activities supporting IT projects and digital transformation programs.
- Work with autonomy within the IT Portfolio while enjoying the support of a highly skilled and collaborative legal team.
About You (Selection Criteria)
The ideal candidate will:
- Be admitted to practise in NSW (or qualified to practise in NSW) and at least 4 years post-admission experience as an in-house counsel or other relevant experience;
- Have deep expertise providing legal advice in support of the acquisition and operationalisation of a wide range of IT commercial contracts including but not limited to cloud services, software licencing, data protection, cybersecurity, telecommunications, managed services, IT professional services and other service arrangements.
- Be highly organised with excellent management, conceptual and analytical skills and a proven ability to build strong relationships and partnerships across client business areas and with other key stakeholders;
- Be able to work effectively within a team and in a complex in-house legal environment.
- Display personal drive and integrity.
- Experience working with or in the higher education or government sector will be well regarded.
