Overview
This Ph.D. programme from Urban and Regional Development from Politecnico di Torino is meant to promote individual talents by providing training and research opportunities in a wide variety of scientific fields that are grouped in three main areas: Social, economic and political sciences; Planning, evaluation and management; Techniques for the territory and the environment.

The programme is focused on training high-profile scholars and professionals in the field of urban and regional development, which could aspire to an academic career or management positions in public or private structures, related to planning and management of transformation processes that affect the cities, the territory and the environment (detection, monitoring, analysis, evaluation, planning and management of the urban systems, territorial and environmental, infrastructure and transport systems, the transformation works of the soil and subsoil). The programme is based on the acknowledgement of the young people ambition to look beyond national borders, both while completing their educational and academic training, and while searching for a job.
Therefore, career opportunities offered by doctoral training can be summarized as follows: public and private scientific research carried out at national, European and international level; university education at national, European and international level; public management in Community, state, regional and local administrations oriented toward management of the territory, urban management and organisation of transports and environmental protection; leadership in the private sector (construction companies, real estate market, local development agencies, urban development companies, engineering companies and architecture consulting and professional offices alike).

- Applicants are required to submit their application for admission online on the Apply@polito platform.
- All applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee (€ 30,00) for each application submitted (one application per each PhD programme).
- After submitting the application, no changes are allowed. It will not be possible to upload any other document.
- Master’s degree (Laurea Magistrale) or Laurea specialistica or academic degree belonging to the university system pre-dating M.D. no. 509 of 3rd November 1999, as amended by M.D. no. 270 of 22nd October 2004 – with minimum final grade: 95/110.

Living costs

Funding
PhD scholarships can be with own research topic or with predefined research topic.
The gross annual amount of the scholarship is usually € 15,343.28, but the Politecnico di Torino has chosen to further enhance and promote the value of PhD programmes, increasing the amount of the scholarships to € 18.854,52.
All candidates compete for scholarships with own research topic, unless they explicitly waive their right to receive them.
The scholarships with predefined research topic are associated to particular research topics for which specific skills are required. Those applicants interested in one or more scholarships shall carefully verify which are the field of research and the competences required, as specified in the scholarship descriptive sheet and contact the relevant scientific referee.
