Position Summary:
The primary duties of this position include the following: Lead focused marketing and advertising efforts designed to increase earned revenue, attendance, ticket sales, and program registrations for the department. Develop and execute targeted promotional campaigns for planetarium shows, summer and school-break camps, special events, facility rentals, premium experiences, memberships, and other revenue-generating programs. Manage the department’s paid advertising strategy across appropriate platforms, including Meta, Google, digital display, search, and other targeted media channels. Establish campaign objectives, audiences, budgets, timelines, creative needs, and performance measures for priority revenue-generating activities. Maintain a rolling marketing and advertising calendar aligned with show schedules, camp registration periods, seasonal programming, events, and other sales opportunities. Identify the audiences most likely to purchase or register for specific offerings and develop targeted messages and advertising strategies for each. Work with the department staff and graphic design resources to develop advertising creative, promotional graphics, photography, video, landing pages, and other campaign assets. Write or edit promotional copy for digital advertisements, email campaigns, web pages, social media, and other customer-facing communications. Coordinate promotional timing across paid advertising, email, social media, web, public relations, and internal communication channels. Monitor ticket sales, registrations, campaign performance, conversion rates, web traffic, and advertising costs and recommend adjustments to improve results. Track marketing expenditures and evaluate the return on advertising investment for major campaigns. Identify underperforming programs or sales periods and recommend timely promotional interventions to increase participation and revenue. Develop strategies to increase repeat visitation, cross-promotion, and customer conversion between the department’s offerings—for example, moving camp families toward memberships, show attendees toward special events, or visitors toward additional paid experiences. Identify opportunities for bundling, seasonal promotion, special offers, audience retargeting, and cross-selling that can increase customer value without unnecessarily discounting the experience. Coordinate with Programs, Guest Relations, Advancement, and other staff to ensure marketing priorities reflect available inventory, program capacity, organizational goals, and revenue opportunities. Provide concise, regular reporting on what is being promoted, what is working, what is not, and where additional marketing investment is warranted. Recommend changes to messaging, pricing promotion, advertising spend, audience targeting, or campaign timing based on performance data. Help the department develop a more disciplined revenue-marketing approach, connecting promotional activity directly to measurable business outcomes. Perform other marketing and promotional duties as assigned in support of the department’s earned-revenue and audience-development goals.
