Job Summary

The VA (Veterans Affairs) School Certifying Official is responsible for maintaining VA certifications for the GGC campus. The Certifying Official will ensure all VA benefits are processed within VA policy guidelines and institutional procedures. This individual is expected to play a key role in fostering a positive work environment with the expectation of continuous improvement and first-class customer service. Collaborative and team-oriented skills with a commitment to student success are essential attributes for this position. The position requires a high level of ethics in the counseling of students.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits at Georgia Gwinnett College, reporting relevant student data for processing to access VA education funding.
  • Certify VA education benefits while maintaining knowledge of beneficiary eligibility requirements; adjust, amend, and terminate VA certifications accordingly to reflect current student course load, and verify that enrollment certifications comply with degree plan requirements.
  • Maintain records of VA students and other eligible persons (38 CFR 21.4253 or 21.4254) and ensure records requested by VA or update State Approving Agency (SAA) are available for inspection (38 CFR 21.4209).
  • Assist military-affiliated students in applying for VA education benefits, serving as the primary point of contact for questions from students, VA representatives, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Prepare emails, reports, and business correspondence efficiently and professionally, operating autonomously in key job responsibilities, and prioritizing workload to successfully perform daily tasks promptly.
  • Reconcile accounting data provided by Student Accounts with VA benefits and multiple funding sources; prepare operational tracking reports as requested by management.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues, faculty, institutional leadership, and external organizations to provide support for our military-affiliated student population.
  • Update supervisors as needed on any internal concerns that may affect service to VA students.
  • Other duties as assigned, such as participating in projects that support enrollment management services goals of the college.

Required Qualifications

  • High School or GED
  • 1 year of relevant work experience.
  • 1 year of customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 Year / Associate Degree
  • 1 year of higher education/enrollment management experience

Proposed Salary

34,800 - 41,700

Salary offer will be dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.
