Position Summary

The MRI Technologist reports directly to the Director of Research and performs a wide variety of technical procedures utilizing magnetic resonance imaging to obtain computer-processed images of designated portions of the body.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures subject safety by screening for medical conditions, allergy history and foreign objects including metal implants, pacemakers, aneurysm clips, hearing aids and shrapnel.
  • Ensure subject and equipment safety by strictly adhering to the MRI safety policy and procedures.
  • Perform scans following standardized protocols for each study including subject positioning and setting up of peripheral equipment.
  • Reviews the quality of image data of finished scans prior to submission for completion of study.
  • Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing and archiving of research records and scans.
  • Clearly explains scanning procedures to subjects and answers their questions in an appropriate and professional manner.
  • Complete required documentation: Checklists, iLab, Redcap, Sponsor forms.
  • Communicate with research study teams as needed.
  • Observes subjects while in the MRI area for change in status and makes appropriate intervention or contacts PI or coordinator for instruction.
  • Directs other non-technical personnel that may be assigned to the area for which they are responsible.
  • Identifies and corrects problems as appropriate with escalation of critical incidents promptly to the next level of authority.
  • Image non-human primates and large animals.
  • Supervise DVM and Study team for MR safety, animal setup and clean up.
  • Follow established cleaning protocols after animal scanning.
  • Conforms to all HIPAA, OSHA, Infection and safety guidelines.
  • Competent to administer contrast media via appropriate peripheral IV access as ordered and directed by qualified physician staff while abiding by NY state guidelines (if appropriately certified)
  • Participates along with nursing in monitoring patients pre, during and post contrast administration for possible allergic reaction to contrast media
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree 3-5 years of MRI experience or the equivalent of education and experience.

Experience with advanced MR scanning techniques, including cardiac, noble gas, DTI and Works In Progress (WIP)

Experience with animal imaging

New York State Licensed X-Ray Technologist by the Department of Health. Registered X-Ray Technologist by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

ARRT MRI certification

Preferred Qualifications

NYS license to inject contrast preferred.

Must have the ability to perform work in a neat, orderly and safe manner with full knowledge of MR safety and ability to enforce safety regulations is required.
