About the Role

Join Swinburne’s Vocational Education (VE) team and bring your real-world experience into a dynamic teaching environment where innovation, collaboration, and student success are at the heart of everything we do.

As the VET Teacher - Transition Education, you will deliver engaging, high-quality training and education for learners with a permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disability to become active participants in the community by assisting them to build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to successfully transition to further study, training and/or employment. You will deliver inclusive, student-centred teaching and assessment that supports diverse learners (including students requiring additional learning support), and embed employability skills, foundation skills (LLN) and real-world learning aligned to current industry and community needs.

Working within a collaborative team of education professionals, you will:

  • Plan, deliver and assess training aligned to current Training Packages
  • Adapt programs to meet diverse learner and industry needs
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive and safe learning environment
  • Ensure compliance and continuous improvement of training delivery
  • Contribute to the development of innovative teaching and assessment materials

About You

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Demonstrated excellence or capacity to implement high quality, innovative approaches in teaching and assessment, using a variety of learning modes, which respond to diverse student learning needs.
  • Demonstrated experience or the capacity to develop learning and assessment resources.
  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of Vocational Education and Training policies and frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience or the capacity to develop and conduct training programs directed to the needs of industry and the community is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education with a Special Education specialisation area.
  • Graduate Certificate of Education with a Special Education specialisation.
  • Master’s degree which includes a Special Education specialisation such as:
  • Master of Special Education.
  • Master of Education (Special Education)

OR

  • Evidencing relevant knowledge and application of theories, methods, and practices in teaching learners with a range of intellectual disabilities through a combination of activities which may include but are not limited to:
  • evidence of incorporating application of theories and approaches into practice and assessment such as:
  • lessons/sessions delivered over a period of time noting approaches used, how different learner needs are addressed, how learning is contextualised, application of special education theories and approaches to practice.
  • peer review of teaching / third party report detailing performance.
  • documented relevant teaching experience.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122)
  • OR
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116)
  • OR
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)
  • OR
  • Diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education.
  • A secondary teaching qualification which is a credential issued by a higher education provider (as defined in section 5 of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011) which would enable the individual to satisfy the academic requirements for registration as a secondary school teacher in accordance with the registration requirements in at least one State or Territory, and one of the following:
  • TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set or TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or its successor
  • OR
  • TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set
