About This Opportunity
The Veterinary Anaesthesia Intern is a specialised academic role within UQ VETS, embedded across the Small Animal, Equine and Production Animal Services at Gatton. Working in a highly collaborative, clinically rich teaching hospital environment, this role offers immersive, hands-on experience in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia while contributing to undergraduate clinical teaching and scholarly activity.
Supported by an experienced team of specialist anaesthetists, residents and technicians, the position is purposefully designed to build capability, confidence and readiness for future specialist training or advanced clinical practice.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Under guidance and supervision, contribute to the anaesthetic and analgesic management of primary, emergency and referral cases across all species presenting to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, including participation in after-hours, weekend and public holiday rosters.
- Assist with the emergency and critical care management of small animal patients requiring anaesthesia or intensive monitoring.
- Support the effective day-to-day operation of the hospital through accurate clinical record keeping and adherence to established procedures and standards of care.
- Contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate Veterinary Science and Veterinary Technology students in clinical and pre-clinical settings, and actively participate in clinical rounds, journal clubs and training activities.
- Liaise professionally with clients, referring veterinarians and colleagues, fostering a respectful, collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
- Participate in clinical research activities undertaken within the School, contributing to the advancement of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia.
- There is an opportunity contribute to scholarly outputs, including the preparation of peer-reviewed publications and presentations to professional or academic audiences.
