Veterinary Anesthesia Nurse
Penn Vet is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Anesthesia Nurse to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing general anesthesia and sedation to small animals, including critical and non-critical cases. Your expertise will be vital in developing individualized anesthetic protocols, conducting physical exams, and overseeing the animals' recovery. Responsibilities:
- Anesthesia and Sedation: Administer general anesthesia and sedation to small animals, including hospitalized, outpatient, critical, and non-critical cases.
- Medical History Review: Thoroughly examine and review the medical history of animal patients to develop individualized anesthetic plans.
- IV Catheter Placement: Skillfully place intravenous catheters for safe administration of medications and fluids.
- Physical Exams: Conduct comprehensive physical examinations to assess patient suitability for anesthesia.
- Anesthetic Protocols: Design and implement customized protocols based on factors like age, breed, health, and surgical needs.
- Anesthesia Management: Safely induce, maintain, and recover animals, monitoring vitals throughout.
- Post-Anesthesia Care: Oversee recovery and decide on patient readiness for return to ward or discharge.
- Equipment Preparation: Set up and prepare equipment for anesthesia cases.
- Collaborative Communication: Foster communication with the veterinary team for seamless coordination.
- Some overnight and weekend on-call for emergent and scheduled cases, with generous compensation.
Requirements:
- Certified Veterinary Technician, with specialization in anesthesia preferred.
- Proven experience administering anesthesia and sedation to small animals.
- Strong knowledge of anesthesia protocols, pharmacology, and patient monitoring.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to handle critical situations.
- Excellent communication skills for team collaboration.
Compensation: Targeted Pay Range: $20.00/hr to $40.00. Actual offers based on qualifications.
Qualifications: Must be a CVT or board eligible, with experience levels from 0-1 year to 8+ years determining the job profile.
Hours: 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, with overnight and weekend on-call required once trained.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 25+ pounds with assistance, reaching, standing, and bending for prolonged periods.
