Job Description Summary
Clinical research nurse skilled in implementing a collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach to successfully plan and coordinate hospital-based companion-animal clinical trials. The Veterinary Clinical Research for the Veterinary Clinical Investigations Center (VCIC) will complete documentation and data entry of patient visits and patient care for multiple trials and database projects.
Job Description
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate the conduct of multiple clinical trials and registries.
- Screen, recruit, and enroll eligible subjects.
- Coordinate and complete visits for subjects in multiple trials.
- Complete study assessments (vital signs), testing (EKG), phlebotomy, and lab processing and shipping per protocol.
- Coordinate the administration of study medication, including monitoring subjects for post-administration adverse events or reactions.
- Prepare study data for statistical analysis.
- Report research progress to Investigators, sponsors, and team members; work directly with principal investigators and other coordinators as needed for the successful execution of clinical trials.
- Participate in initiation, monitoring, audit, and close-out visits.
- Participate in study team meetings and ongoing protocol training/compliance meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Pre-trial responsibilities: liaise with the sponsoring agency to ensure full understanding of the study protocol and procedures, preparation and submission of regulatory paperwork, development of study documentation tools such as source check sheets, work flow sheets, tracking forms for supplies/equipment/drugs/devices, case report forms, coordinate meetings to discuss the specific requirements for all the departments and personnel involved (laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, finance, and nursing units in a study.
Trial responsibilities: screen, recruit and enroll animals/owners while providing education and obtaining informed consent, meet with each animal/owner to complete health assessments, physical examinations, and questionnaires, and to evaluate each animal/owner in relation to the inclusion/exclusion criteria, as specifically required by each study, follow each animal/owner through the study to monitor treatment, responses to treatment, problems, and adverse events and follow-up.
Post-trial responsibilities: case report forms are analyzed, and quality assurance performed to ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice, complete data queries and changes in practice that require follow-up, ensure all medication, supplies, devices and equipment used in the study are accounted for, study closure reports are submitted. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. General skills: strong organizational and time management skills, high degree of computer proficiency required (specifically MS Word, Excel), detail oriented, works independently as well as part of a team. Maintains flexible work hours to maximize study enrollment.
This position is contingent upon grant funding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited school and 3-5 years of experience in a companion animal tertiary care veterinary facility is required. Four to six years of experience is strongly preferred. Certified Veterinary Technician licensure is required; a Bachelor’s Degree and Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) licensure are preferred. A valid driver's license is required.
