The Veterinary Medicine DVM programme from Long Island University (LIU) key facts:
- The first year of the DVM programme emphasizes structure and function, animal handling and restraint, and building clinical skills. The learning environment includes didactic teaching, on campus laboratory sessions, and experiential learning at partner institutions.
- The second year of the Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programme at Long Island University (LIU) emphasizes morphological and physiological manifestations of disease focusing on infectious diseases.
- The third year of the DVM programme emphasizes clinical medicine focusing on clinical signs, diagnosis, prognosis, prevention and treatment of common diseases of domestic animals.
- The fourth year of the DVM programme provides supervised opportunities for students to enhance professional and clinical skills. Students will experience clinical rotations at a variety of hospitals and other veterinary facilities with which the College will establish relationships.

Other requirements
- Completion of at least 60 credits of full time postsecondary education at a recognized university, or at a college providing university-equivalent courses.
- Preference will be given to applicants that have completed a baccalaureate degree with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0. Minimum overall GPA is set at 2.8.
- Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in pre-requisite courses.
- Quality of writing and knowledge of the veterinary profession as evidenced in the applicant's personal statement/essays that include a description of relevant work experience.
- Evaluation of three letters of reference.
- Contribution to diversity.
- Interview (by invitation only). Based on review of the applications by the College of Veterinary Medicine, the most competitive applicants will be invited to an online video interview.
