Position Description

This position will participate in an advanced clinical training program under the supervision of board-certified specialists. This residency will prepare the candidate for board certification in a recognized veterinary specialty per the American Board of Veterinary Specialties. This position will be involved in clinical case management, teaching, and continuing education throughout the program. There is an opportunity to participate in a related research field.

About the Department and/or College

This position will participate in an advanced clinical training program under the supervision of three board-certified anatomic pathologist. This residency will prepare the candidate for the board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologist Specialties. This position will be involved in necropsy and biopsy case management, teaching, and continuing education throughout the program. There is an opportunity to participate in a related research field.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Provide high-level pathology expertise.
  • Redact necropsy and biopsy reports in a timely manner.
  • Complete and maintain accurate medical records and documentation of necropsies and biopsies.
  • Participate in clinical rounds, journal clubs, seminars, resident training sessions and case discussions.
  • Teach and mentor veterinary students and junior residents as part of the academic program.
  • Conduct clinical or basic research and contribute to publications or presentations.
  • Assist in teaching veterinary students through lectures, tutorials, practical, and during clinic rotations.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinary technicians, support staff, and students to deliver excellent pathology diagnostics.

Required Qualifications

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution. Licensure or eligibility to legally practice in the State of Texas. Interest in specialty training and academic development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preliminary anatomic pathology training
  • Candidates with successful completion of ACVP phase I examination.
  • Publications or presentations in veterinary pathology
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated interest in specialty training and academic development.

Pay Range

$59,000 - $77,100 - $94,900
